Major League Baseball Geography

Do you have a baseball fan in your home school or classroom?  Here is a United States of America Geography Game that's sure to be a World Series Winner.

Purchase an inexpensive U.S.A. map floor puzzle.  The image below is linked to a Carson Product floor puzzle that is 3 ft. x 2 ft..  I chose this puzzle for its durability and because there is room on each piece for printing baseball teams' names.  It costs around $20.

Children are instructed to neatly, and lightly "pencil in" Major League Baseball teams on each state that boasts a team. Once Mom or classroom teacher checks for spelling accuracy, children should print over each team's name with permanent marker, perhaps in the team colors.  My twins' favorite label is the "Minnesota Twins."  Children, then put their puzzle together.

Teachers can encourage further learning by purchasing, or renting from a library, an American state fact book.  Catholic Heritage Curricula offers thourough Geography Bee books. These fun learning tools highlight state nicknames, animals, and landmarks to name just a few.  Multiple choice answers are provided.

The following link enables you to learn more about these wonderful books we take out every Friday: www.chcweb.com.  Ask state questions and children answer and find the state, along with naming the baseball team that honors the state. Add questions about surrounding states that might not be fortunate enough to have major league teams, but may boast minor league teams.  Now that we are using Geography Bee with our Major League Baseball Puzzle things have become even more interesting.

One more twist in this fun learning game is to rent or purchase a Major League Baseball fact book.  Learn about your favorite teams or rivals and find their state on our nation's map.

However you play Major League Baseball Geography it is sure to teach your students all about our Union's states.  And you will earn at least a double in the eyes of children and teens because you are making U.S.A. Geography fun.
